How to Play Baby Shower Gift Bingo

Gift opening is the centerpiece of every baby shower — but without a game layer, it can feel like one long unboxing video that half the room can't see. Gift bingo fixes this. Every guest has a card, every gift is a potential square, and suddenly everyone is leaning in instead of checking their phone.

What You Need

  • One bingo card per guest (printed or digital)
  • Markers or pens (for printed cards) — or phones (for digital)
  • A small prize (or a few) for the winner(s)
  • A helper who can announce each gift clearly

Setup (10 Minutes Before the Shower)

Fill your bingo squares with gift categories — not specific brands, since guests won't know what was purchased. Use broad categories that will match most gifts:

  • Clothing (any size)
  • Blanket or swaddle
  • Stuffed animal or toy
  • Diapering supplies (diapers, wipes, cream)
  • Bath items
  • Books
  • Feeding supplies (bottles, bibs, burp cloths)
  • Sleep items (sleep sack, white noise machine)
  • Baby monitor
  • Carrier or wrap
  • Activity gym or tummy time mat
  • Gift card
  • Personalized item (name on it)
  • Handmade gift
  • Nursing or pumping supplies
  • Subscription service (diaper subscription, meal delivery)

Aim for 30–40 items in your pool so each card has a different combination. BingWow's card creator randomizes the layout automatically.

The Rules (Explain in 60 Seconds)

  1. Look at your card before gifts start — each square is a type of baby item
  2. When a gift is opened and matches a square on your card, mark it off
  3. First to mark five squares in a row (across, down, or diagonal) calls "Bingo!"
  4. Winner reads their squares aloud to verify, then gets the prize
  5. Optional: keep playing for second and third place

During the Game: Tips for Hosts

  • Name gifts clearly. "This is a muslin swaddle set" beats "this is cute!"
  • Pace the opening. One gift every 90 seconds keeps energy up without rushing the mom-to-be.
  • Designate a caller. Someone who isn't playing can announce each gift so the host can focus on the mom-to-be.
  • Handle disputed squares fairly. If a guest marks "bath items" but the gift is a bathrobe, let it count — the point is fun, not strict rules.

What If No One Gets Bingo?

After all gifts are opened, award a prize to whoever has the most squares marked. You can also play a quick tiebreaker round with a separate phrase bingo card. Keep a few backup prizes on hand.
