Blooket was a flat line in Google Trends as late as early 2021. By January 2026, it had surpassed Kahoot in search interest for the first time. That trajectory — from zero to market leader in under four years — is the fastest rise documented in the classroom game tool category.
The Numbers
Based on a 7-year analysis of Google Trends data across 20 EdTech engagement tools (full methodology and interactive charts):
- 6,300% growth in Blooket's Google Trends search interest since January 2020
- January 2026: Blooket registered 53 on the Google Trends index while Kahoot registered 47 — the first crossover
- March 2026: The gap widened — Blooket at 63, Kahoot at 61
- 27.89 million monthly visits as of February 2026 (SimilarWeb)
What Drove It
The game mechanics are different from anything else in the category. Kahoot runs a single quiz format with all players on the same timer. Blooket offers twelve distinct game modes — tower defense, battle royale, factory builder — all built on the same question set. Students play games that require correct answers, rather than answering questions formatted as a game. That distinction drives the kind of sustained engagement that shows up in long-term search trends.
September 2021 brought the first detectable signal. By April 2022, Blooket had crossed a Google Trends score of 30. By February 2023, it had nearly closed the gap with Kahoot. The crossover became official in January 2026.
What Kahoot Still Does Best
Kahoot's position isn't eroding everywhere. 97% of Fortune 500 companies use it. 8 million educators worldwide have accounts. Kahoot is the standard for corporate training, large-event activations, and enterprise-scale deployment. The platform has 12 billion cumulative participants — a number no competitor comes close to.
What the Google Trends data reveals is a shift in the K-12 classroom, not a collapse of the broader Kahoot ecosystem. Students are choosing Blooket for classroom review because the game mechanics hold their attention longer. Enterprises are staying with Kahoot because the integration and compliance infrastructure is mature.
Context: The Academic Evidence
Li, He, and Yuan's 2023 meta-analysis at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies examined 41 studies involving 5,071 participants and found gamified learning produces a large effect size: Hedges' g = 0.822 (95% CI: 0.567-1.078) compared to traditional instruction (Frontiers in Psychology, DOI: 10.3389/fpsyg.2023.1253549). The escalating adoption of tools like Blooket is consistent with this evidence — game mechanics that produce measurable learning gains drive sustained search interest.
